Georgia shares data on wheat imports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 24

Georgian wheat and meslin flour imports from January through October 2021 amounted to 22.4 million tons worth $6.8 million, Trend reports via National Statistics Office (Geostat).

The current figure has increased, compared to 9 million tons (worth $2.5 million) of wheat and meslin flour imports over the same period of 2020.

TOP-5 exporters of wheat and meslin flour to Georgia (Jan. through Oct. 2021):

Russia – $6.5 million (21.7 million tons);

Turkey – $107,670 (230,020 tons);

Italy – $71,100 (85,270 tons);

Ukraine – $52,270 (170,000 tons);

Lithuania – $47,670 (167,210 tons).

Russia remained the top exporter of wheat to Georgia over the first 10 months of 2021, though increasing exports, compared to $2.1 million (7.8 million tons) of wheat in the same period of 2020.

Thus, Russia’s share in the total Georgian wheat imports over the reporting period of 2021 accounted for 95.5 percent.
