Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi on Monday voiced his support for the Libyan Transitional National Council, considering the rebel cause to topple leader Moamer Gaddafi nearly a fait accompli , reported dpa .
To spare the Libyan people further suffering, Gaddafi should give up any futile idea of holding on to power, Berlusconi said.
At the same time, he said, the opposition council should abstain from acts of vengeance and "approach candidly with courage all sections of the population and (bring about) democraticization."
