Rallies in Yemen seek Saleh's ouster, international support

Arab World Materials 5 October 2011 06:35 (UTC +04:00)

Massive gatherings thronged Sana'a on Tuesday to call for international support for the Yemeni uprising, while anti-government demonstrations demanded that President Ali Abdullah Saleh leave office, dpa reported.

Demonstrators called for Saleh and his family to be brought to justice and blamed him for Yemen's current instability.

Two people were killed earlier Tuesday and one person was wounded when forces loyal to Saleh randomly shelled an area neighbouring the protest camp at Hayil Street in Sana'a.

An estimated 650 protesters have died and thousands have been injured since February, when Yemenis took to the streets to demand an end to Saleh's 33-year rule.
