UN military official in Syria for talks

The military advisor of United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, has arrived in Damascus for a three-day visit, a UN spokesman in Syria said Saturday, dpa reported.

"The Senegalese Lieutenant-General Babacar Gaye arrived in Damascus and will hold talks with the head of the observers' mission General Robert Mood," the spokesman for the UN observer mission in Syria, Hassan Saklawi, told reporters in Damascus.

The spokesman of international envoy Kofi Annan, Ahmed Fawzi, said on Friday that Annan would be visiting Syria soon, but did not give a specific date.
