Israel remains committed to achieving peace with the Palestinians and remains committed to a vision of two states for two peoples, Amir Rom, the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Israeli embassy in Azerbaijan, told Trend Oct. 21.

He said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated numerous times Israeli readiness to immediately resume direct peace negotiations with the Palestinian Authority without any preconditions.

On Oct 16, an Israeli soldier was stabbed and moderately wounded in a thwarted knife attack during clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians just outside of Hebron. The Palestinian, a 26-year-old laborer, mingled with journalists covering a clash between Palestinian stone-throwers and Israeli troops in the city of Hebron, wearing a T-shirt with "press" written on it.

The attacker was shot and killed on the scene. Yet at least four residents of Palestine died Oct.16 in clashes with the military, which took place along the Gaza border and in the West Bank.

In total, the current outbreak of the conflict claimed the lives of 40 Palestinians, according to Palestinian medics.
