Germany's Hertha Berlin have gained an extra place in next season's UEFA Cup based on their fair-play record, the German Football League (DFL) said Sunday, the dpa reported.

Hertha will go into the first qualifying round of the competition, as one of three teams in Europe awarded a place on the basis of UEFA's fair-play competition.

Teams from England ( Manchester City) and Denmark also have places.

SV Hamburg and VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday clinched UEFA Cup qualification after finishing fifth and sixth in the Bundesliga respectively.

Hertha finished 10th in the league but were top of the DFL fair-play chart based on criteria including the number of red and yellow cards and an evaluation by referees.
