At least 13 people were killed and seven others injured in a fire which engulfed a hostel in south Russia's Astrakhan region, Interfax reported on Sunday, citing the investigation committee, Xinhua reported.
"Thirteen bodies had been retrieved and seven people hospitalized by 9:00 a.m. Moscow time (0600 GMT), on Sunday," said spokesman Vladimir Markin of the federal prosecutor's investigation committee.
The cause of the incident was yet unknown but fire disasters in Russia's winter were frequent mostly due to the outmoded electricity or heating system.
