UN anti-drug official visits Cuba

UN under-secretary general and executive director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Antonio Maria Costa, began on Monday an official visit to Cuba.

Costa, who has been in charge of the UNODC since 2002, will meet with Cuban leader and will visit places of interests related to issues under the UNODC attention, Xinhua reported.

Cuba has an "effective national program" on drug prevention, local press said on Monday. Cuban authorities seized 1.8 kg of drugs in 2008, the second lest drug seizures in the last 14 years.
