Afghan and NATO-led troops during a joint operation in Logar province 60 km south of Afghan capital Kabul captured a Taliban local leader on Sunday, a statement of the alliance released here said.

Afghan and NATO-led troops during a joint operation in Logar province 60 km south of Afghan capital Kabul captured a Taliban local leader on Sunday, a statement of the alliance released here said, Xinhua reported.

"An Afghan and coalition security force detained a Taliban leader during an operation in Charkh district, Logar province today," the statement added.

Without revealing the name of the arrested local Taliban leader, the statement stated, "the leader directed roadside bombings and ambushes against Afghan and coalition security force patrols throughout the district and also provided weapons to the insurgents operating in the area."

Taliban militants fighting Afghan and NATO-led multinational peacekeeping force in the militancy-plagued Afghanistan have yet to make comment.
