During last months of U.S. ex-President George Bush's office, Iran asked Turkey to mediate in improving relations between Tehran and Washington, Cihan news agency quoted Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying in an interview to the Guardian newspaper.
"Iran wants Turkey to mediate between Tehran and Washington. The country applied to Turkey in this regard," he said.
If the U.S. accepts Turkey's mediation, Ankara will agree to play the role.
