Baku, Azerbaijan, May 13

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani pledged full support for Iraq unity, saying that Iran opposes any disintegration of Iraq.

He made the remarks in a joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Masum in Tehran, Iran 's Fars news agency reported May 13.

As a united and unified nation, Iraq will not allow foreigners to make any decisions about the future of the country, Rouhani said.

The two countries enjoy good economic relations, he said, adding that during a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart the two sides discussed boosting cooperation in road and rail transport, energy, agriculture, and industry.

The Iraqi president arrived in Tehran on May 12 for an official three-day visit.

On May 9, Masum dismissed allegations that Iran interferes in Iraq, saying Tehran 's support for Baghdad in the fight against the IS(Islamic State) terrorists has been out of brotherly intentions.

"We do not regard Iran 's presence in Iraq as interference in our domestic affairs or profit seeking, and we believe that Iran 's assistance to us has been positive and well-timed," the Iraqi president said.
