Batumi will host World Chess Olympiad in 2018.
A decision to hold the Olympiad in Batumi was made at the General Assembly of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in Tromso (Norway), Georgian Minister of Sport and Youth Levan Kipiani told media Aug. 14.
The capital of South Africa - Cape Town was the other contender for holding the chess Olympiad.
Some 93 FIDE delegates voted for Batumi, while 58 - for Cape Town.
"Georgia will adequately hold the World Chess Olympiad," the minister said. "A decision of holding the Chess Olympiad in Batumi is to admit Georgia's merits in chess."
The World Chess Olympiad will be held in Baku in 2016.
