The low productivity of the use of information and communication technologies in different sectors of the economy of Azerbaijan is connected with an insufficient high enough level of agitation in this area, Minister of Education Misir Mardanov said during a speech at first republican scientific-practical conference on Thursday.

The minister said despite the rapid economic development in recent years, unfortunately, Azerbaijan has not yet reached a wide level of IT in various industries compared to Europe and the United States.

Another problem according to the minister, is the unproductive use of existing technologies and systems which in his opinion, is due to the shortage of human resources in this area.

"The rapid development of the technology industry dictates its terms. So we must always be ready to acquire them," he said.

More than 38 million PCs, more than 3000 of which are laptops, were delivered to educational institutions under the 'Programmes for providing secondary schools of Azerbaijan by information and communication technologies' (2005-2007) and the 'State Programme on an Education System in Azerbaijan" (2008-2012), the Office of Information Systems of Education under Ministry of Education said.

Of the percentage of 4522 secondary schools, 84 per cent of the 110 vocational training institutions and 56 public post-secondary educational institutions are provided with computer equipment.

In the medium educational institutions each 20 students accounts for a computer and in the public schools it is one computer per 28 students.
