Azerbaijan’s electricity export potential revealed

The electricity export potential of Azerbaijan is equal to six billion kilowatt hours, Deputy Head of the Energy Department of Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry Asaf Rzayev said on Oct.27.

He made the remarks during the 13th conference on investments and energy regulation of the Energy Regulators Regional Association (ERRA) in Baku.

Rzayev said the installed capacity of Azerbaijan's power supply system is 7,100 megawatt and consists of 14 thermal and 10 hydro power plants.

The capacity of Azerbaijan's power supply system has increased by 2,300 megawatt over the last 10 years as a result of commissioning of new energy generating facilities.

The main sources of electricity generation are: gas (92 percent), hydro resources (7.9 percent) and alternative sources (0.1 percent).

Azerbaijan plans to construct up to 100 facilities for generation of alternative energy.
