BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 29. Within the context of supporting implementation of Azerbaijan's projects, the World Bank (WB) is considering the prospects for the development of the Middle Corridor, which allows the transportation of goods from China to Europe, Sarah Michael, WB Country Manager for Azerbaijan, told Trend.

"There is an active development in the country, so we want to ensure that the WB programs that are being implemented along with the Government of Azerbaijan, affect popular and relevant areas, such as the development of the Middle Corridor”, the WB representative explained.

According to Michael, the WB has now completed the next cycle of programs in Azerbaijan, and, therefore, the Government and the WB are discussing a New Support Agreement, which is expected to be closely linked to the strategy of Azerbaijan’s economic development for 2022-2026.

Moreover, the new program will affect the renewable energy sector, including the transition to green energy.

As the country manager noted, the WB believes that the new cycle of programs will contribute to the development of human potential in Azerbaijan and will affect the education, health and social services.

At the same time, the WB will continue to provide technical support to the Azerbaijani Government in relevant areas of cooperation.

The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), of the so-called Middle Corridor, is an international transport corridor that runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and further to Türkiye and European countries. At the moment, the Middle Corridor offers the shortest and least expensive route to Europe.
