Azerbaijan, Baku, 18 March / Trend corr. G.Jabiyev / The opposition Azadlig bloc has postponed the mass rallies for indefinite period.
"Existence of uncertainty connected with the upcoming presidential elections, hinder the possibility to hold the mass rallies," Ali Aliyev, a member of the bloc and chairman of Citizen and Development Party, stated to Trend .
In Oct 2008, the presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan. Azadlig, which unites three opposition parties, Popular front, Liberal and Citizen and Development, demanded the formation of an election commissions on parity basis and changing of the Bill on Freedom of Assembly. In this case, the bloc will boycott the elections and will stage rallies in the end of March and early April.
Aliyev said the necessary decisions on the issue has not been made so far, as the discussions on the changes in the election legislation and Bill on Freedom of Assembly have not been completed between Azerbaijan and Council of Europe Venice Commission.
Bloc will stage rally in the centre of Baku, if no changes are made in the Bill on Freedom of Assembly.
