Azerbaijani Opposition Party to Punish Members Participating in Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku, 19 September / Trend corr. E.Abbasli / No case has been fixed on participation of members of the opposition Musavat party in the election campaign of Igbal Agazade, presidential candidate from the Umid party.

"Our party agreed to boycott the elections. Naturally, if a member will participate in election campaign of any candidate, then his action will contradict Musavat's policy," Arif Hajili, Head of the Central Executive Administration of Musavat, told Trend .

Earlier, Agazade stated that most members from Musavat would support his candidature in the presidential elections.

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on 15 October. A total of seven candidates will take part in the elections including Ilham Aliyev, chairman of Ruling New Azerbaijan Party, Igbal Agazade, chairman of opposition Umid (Hope) Party, Fazil Gazanfaroglu, chairman of Great Establishment Party, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of Unified Popular Front Party, Hafiz Hajiyev, chairman of Muasir Musavat Party, Fuad Aliyev, chairman of Liberal Democrat Party and independent candidate Gulamhuseyn Alibayli. Election campaign will start on 17 September and last 28 days.

Hajili said that the corresponding measures will be taken in accordance with the Charter against the members, whose actions will contradict party's policy.
