The Azerbaijani opposition Muasir Musavat Party (MMP) intends to hold demonstrations on the same day with the radical opposition agitation groups on referendum. The MMP applied to the Baku City Administration (BCA) to hold a demonstration on March 9.
"If agitation groups against referendum draw the Azerbaijani people in sabotage, they will see us before them," MMP Chairman Hafiz Hajiyev told Trend on March 2.
The MMP did not agree to hold a demonstration at a place offered by the BCA on March 1. Although the MMP wanted to hold a demonstration at one of central squares in Baku, the BCA offered to the party to hold a demonstration at the Bibiheybat stadium which belongs to the Neftchi Sport & Health Centre. The MMP intended to hold a demonstration on the same day with the Movement for Garabag and Republic agitation group to protest against the latter's demonstration.
Hajiyev said that the party's organization committee continues arrangements for the demonstration. "If we receive permission for the demonstration, the party's regional organization members will join the demonstration, as well," the MMP chairman said.
Hajiyev said if the radical opposition holds illegal demonstration, the MMP will also do so. "The Movement for Garabag and Republic agitation group received permission for demonstration. And if we do not receive the permission, we will hold an illegal demonstration," Hajiyev said.
The Movement for Garabag and Republic applied to the Baku City Administration to hold a mass demonstration in one of central squares of Baku on March 9.
