Group smuggling large consignment of drugs from Iran, Russia detained in Azerbaijan (UPDATE)

The National Security Ministry (NSM) of Azerbaijan has detained individuals smuggling large consignment of drugs to Azerbaijan from Iran and Russia. A total of 20 kilograms of hashish has been seized.

Azerbaijani citizen Murad Aliyev and Azer Mammadov and Iranian citizen Alibala Tariverdiyan smuggled large consignment of drugs to Azerbaijan, the NSM press service said.

It was revealed that driver of BELIT truck Alibala Tariverdiyan hid drugs in his truck, smuggled it to Azerbaijan and met with Murad Aliyev in Gadadagh district of Baku. Aliyev and Azer Mammadov arrived in Garadagh in BMW sedan of Mammadov and met with Tariverdiyev who gave him package of drugs. They were arrested while heading for Baku. Over 16 kilograms hashish was seized from their car.  

The ministry also prevented smuggling of drugs via Azerbaijan-Russia route.

Sumgayit resident Esmira Asadova received 4 kilograms of hashish from yet-unknown man in Masalli region in an effort to transport it to Moscow. Asadova was detained while returning to Sumgayit. About 4 kilograms of drugs was seized from her.  

A suit has been filed on both cases. An investigation is underway.
