The most important stage of the glorious history of the police is related to the name of Azerbaijani National leader Heydar Aliyev, the Interior Minister said.

"After the election of the great leader as the head of the republic in 1969, the attention and concern of the state to the Interior Ministry was strengthened. Special attention was paid to the personnel dedicated to people, their upbringing in the spirit of patriotism and national and spiritual values. As a result, hundreds of policemen, who fought bravely against the Armenian aggressors and were killed, performed their civic duty completely, " the minister said.

Those years the police has proved that no force can prevent the interior authorities to perform their duties to the motherland, Usubov said.

"We are proud that our staff made a worthy contribution to the tremendous work of the savior of our people in maintaining independence and statehood of Azerbaijan, stability for the future development", the minister added.

He said that one of the priorities of the country was independence in the last century, maintaining of stability is the most important from a new stage of building of the state.

Azerbaijani progress, achieved success helped to attract international investments to the republic, the minister said. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's constant efforts played an important role in strengthening the country, improving well-being of citizens, conducting of reforms in the Interior Ministry corresponding to the development, the Minister said.

More than 22,000 criminal groups were neutralized as a result of search operations after the decree "Strengthening of the fight with crime and activities aimed at strengthening the rule of law" signed by great leader Heydar Aliyev August 9, 1994.

"About 33,000 units of firearms were revealed. The number of crimes committed with the use of firearms decreased by seven times. About 76,000 wanted criminals were detained. More than 4 tons of drugs were revealed. A sharp reduction in serious crimes is observed.

This positive trend continued this year. There was a noticeable decrease in the dynamics of crimes involving intentional damage to health, looting, bullying, etc. The crimes related to hostage seizure were not registered. Detection of crimes against people, including murders, extortion, demands with the threat, improved " Usubov said.

The minister said that the number of employees in the internal bodies having higher education increased from 58,3 percent to 88,5 percent compared to 1994.

The number of lawyers among them increased from 33,3 percent to 76, 4 percent.
