Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 9 / Trend M.Aliyev /
The International Center for the Diaspora held a rally in front of the Iranian Embassy in Baku. The demonstrators protest against "Iranian officials disrespecting Azerbaijan and Iran's rapprochement with Armenia," a Trend correspondent was told at the scene.
According to preliminary estimates, the event has brought together about a hundred people.
Participants voice the slogans, "Do not meddle in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan," "Iran is a friend of Muslims' enemies," and "Stop supporting the occupier."
The embassy staff refused to accept the resolution submitted by the picketers.
The resolution notes that some forces in the Islamic Republic of Iran, trying to present themselves as friends of Azerbaijan, do not stop, under the pretext of protecting Islamic values, make statements contrary to the friendly relations and principles of international law
"Iran, which presents itself to the Muslim world as an ardent follower of Islam, does not shun from establishing strategic partnerships with Armenia who has occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories and killed more than 30,000 Muslims. These forces, screaming about violations of religious freedom in Azerbaijan, for some reason forget the violated rights and freedoms of more than one million Azerbaijanis, do not want to say anything about the destruction of mosques in the occupied territories. We demand the senior officials of Iran to cease cooperation with Armenia who have occupied Azerbaijan's lands, killed thousands of civilians and expelled hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis from their native lands. Also we demand Iran to respect all national rights of the 30 millionth of the Azerbaijani population of Iran, as well as create all necessary conditions for their education in their mother language and preserve their national and spiritual values," says the resolution.
The police broke up the rally, four activists of the International Centre for Diaspora were detained, and one of the protesters was hospitalized due to worsening health.
