Georgian National Security Council will be empowered to supervise, manage and coordinate actions at the highest political level in any crisis situations, containing a threat to the country's national interests.
The relevant legislative amendment was made by the Georgian parliament on Tuesday.
The National Security Council, which is an advisory body under the country's president, as a result of legislative amendments adopted in December, was empowered with another new function - namely an authority to develop a document on the assessment of threats to Georgia was transferred from the Defense Ministry to the Council.
Giga Bokeria was appointed the Secretary of the National Security Council.
