Paraguay is interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan and considers it important to identify areas of mutual interest, the country's President Fernando Lugo said at a meeting with Azerbaijani Ambassador to Paraguay Mammad Ahmedov.
The Azerbaijani Ambassador to Argentina, also accredited to Paraguay, presented his credentials to President Lugo, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry said.
Both sides stressed the importance of continuing the political dialogue, promoting economic cooperation particularly in energy, agricultural and pharmaceutical areas. They also exchanged views on regional security issues, settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijan's energy strategy and its role in regional cooperation and development.
Ahmedov conveyed the Azerbaijani president's greetings to the Paraguayan head and informed him about the country, speaking about the history of independence, achieved successes and its growing prestige in the world.
He said Azerbaijan attaches great importance to developing relations with Latin American countries, including Paraguay.
