Results of the project on 'Strengthening the system of customs and phyto-sanitary border control in Georgia' were presented to reporters.

The project funded by the Council of Europe to the sum of 1.8 million Euros, provided a unique opportunity for the Income Service of Georgia, the administrations of border control of Denmark, Italy and Estonia to work together to strengthen the border control system in Georgia

The aim of the project was to strengthen the customs administration of Georgia by approximation to EU customs standards.

The Income Service of Georgia has strengthened the customs administration and procedures and the EU member states have implemented them.

Five study visits were made to the EU member states during which Georgian specialists became familiar with the European customs standards and adopted new procedures.
The project also focused on food safety, veterinary and phyto-sanitary border controls.

The project was managed by the central tax and customs administration of Denmark along with the Customs Agency of Italy, Veterinary and Food Administration of Denmark, Customs and Tax Board of Estonia and the Board of the Veterinary and Food Board of Estonia.

The event was attended by Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri, Ambassador of Italy Federica Favi, Estonian Ambassador Priit Turk, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Georgia Boris Yaroshevich and Honorary Consul of Denmark Esben Emborg.
