Azerbaijani CEC approves one more presidential candidate

At Tuesday’s meeting of the Central Election Commission (CEC) held under the chairmanship of CEC head Mazahir Panahov, the member of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, the advisor from the New Azerbaijan Party, the deputy of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan Aydin Mirzazade was approved as the consultant of the New Azerbaijan Party with the voting right.

At Tuesday's meeting of the Central Election Commission (CEC) held under the chairmanship of CEC head Mazahir Panahov, the member of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, the advisor from the New Azerbaijan Party, the deputy of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan Aydin Mirzazade was approved as the consultant of the New Azerbaijan Party with the voting right.

Meanwhile, the candidacy of the self-nominated candidate Ilgar Mammadov for participation in presidential elections was approved at the CEC meeting.

The plenipotentiary representatives of Ilgar Mammadov were also registered.

Earlier, the documents of 18 candidates for participation in presidential elections were presented to the Central Election Commission. These candidates include: candidate of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party - Chairman of the party, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, the candidate of Azadlig party - party's chairman Ahmed Oruj, the candidate from Citizen and Development Party, the party's chairman Ali Aliyev, Azerbaijan Liberal Party chairman Fuad Aliyev, lawyer Ilgar Mammadov (Altay), who put forward his candidacy on his own initiative, the chairman of Umid party, Igbal Aghazade, the chairman of the United Popular Front party of Azerbaijan Gudrat Hasanguliyev, the chairman of the Social Democratic party of Azerbaijan Araz Alizade, the chairman of Modern Musavat party Hafiz Hajiyev, self-nominated candidates, Zahid Oruj, the chairman of the National Revival party Faraj Guliyev, the Director of the East-West Research Centre Arastun Orujlu, self-nominated candidates Elshan Hasanov, Ismayil Yusifov, Gudrat Isagov, Ilgar Mammadov and the chairman of Adalat party Ilyas Ismayilov, as well as Rustam Ibrahimbayov from the initiative group of National Council.

Thus, the CEC has approved the candidacy of 16 people.

Earlier, the CEC approved the candidacies of the chairman of the ruling New Azerbaijan party, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the chairman of Azadlig party Ahmed Oruj, Ilgar Mammadov (Altay), chairman of Umid party Igbal Aghazade, the chairman of the Liberal Democratic party of Azerbaijan Fuad Aliyev, chairman of the Citizen and Development party Ali Aliyev, the chairman of the Social Democratic party of Azerbaijan Araz Alizade, the chairman of the United Popular Front party of Azerbaijan Gudrat Hasanguliyev, the chairman of Modern Musavat party Hafiz Hajiyev, self-nominated candidates, Zahid Oruj, Ismayil Yusifov, Elshan Hasanov and the chairman of the National Revival party Faraj Guliyev, the Director of the East-West Research Centre Arastun Orujlu and the chairman of Adalat party Ilyas Ismayilov.

Azerbaijani citizens who have the voting right (active or passive), initiative group of voters, political parties, blocks of political parties have the right to nominate the candidacy for participation in the presidential elections.

Presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on October 9.

Previous presidential elections were held on October 15, 2008.

Presidential elections in Azerbaijan are held each five years.
