The observation mission for the Azerbaijani presidential election from the Italian Senate (Upper House of the parliament) marked great desire of the active civil society to build the country's future with their own hands.

The observation mission from the Italian Senate held monitoring in eight polling stations in Baku and Sumgait, where it observed a great desire of the active civil society to build the country's future with their own hands, the head of the observation mission Sergio Divino said at the press-conference in the Independent Media Centre in Baku on Thursday.

The voting at the polling stations was held in an organized way despite the large flow of voters, he stressed.

"We witnessed the non-admission of only one voter who confused the number of the polling station where he would vote according to the law," the mission head said.

According to Divino, the election in Azerbaijan was held in a free and democratic atmosphere.

The member from the Italian Senate Mauro Maurizio also marked the good organization of the election process in Azerbaijan. According to him, the mission highly assessed the procedure of marking of already voted persons and this serves to the transparency of the election process.

Azerbaijani presidential election was held on October 9. According to the results announced by Azerbaijani CEC after processing of ballots from all polling stations, President Ilham Aliyev gathered 3,126.612 votes (84.55 percent).
