BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 31. The statement of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) of the Republic of Azerbaijan has been issued in connection with the provocation committed by people of Armenian origin against the Azerbaijani Embassy in Lebanon, the Office of the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan told Trend.

Armenia has throughout history pursued a policy of terror against Azerbaijani and Turkish diplomats, and this year a monument dedicated to the "Nemesis" terrorist operation was unveiled as a symbol of support for this policy.

"The following incident, which became one of the consequences of this policy, occurred in Lebanon, when about 50 people of Armenian origin gathered in front of the administrative building of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Lebanon and, chanting various slogans, threw bottles filled with paint and a combustible mixture into the building.

Although there were no casualties among the embassy staff, such cases should be considered provocations aimed at harming the lives and health of Azerbaijani diplomats.

At the same time, despite the fact that the people who committed the provocation were able to leave when law enforcement officers arrived, they should be brought to justice. According to international law, embassy buildings are inviolable and must be protected from any interference or harm. Therefore, each country should take the necessary measures to ensure the security of the bodies of the diplomatic service.

Unfortunately, Armenians have attacked Azerbaijan's diplomatic missions located abroad several times before and committed various acts of vandalism. A similar incident occurred in front of our embassy in Lebanon last year. Serious concern is caused by the fact that Armenians continue their radical attacks and commit violent acts for the sake of holding the rally, chanting slogans with accusations and disrespect for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

"I would like to note that we have repeatedly made open appeals regarding the fact that the propaganda of hatred towards Azerbaijanis by Armenia has escalated. Consequently, the continuation of this policy of Azerbaijanophobia leads to the commission by Armenians both inside and outside of Armenia of actions directed against Azerbaijan in various forms," said the Office of the Ombudsman.

"In this regard, I call on all foreign countries to fulfill their obligations under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, resolutely condemn cases of attacks on diplomatic missions, and support the adoption of necessary measures of responsibility," said the statement.

In general, about 50 people of Armenian origin, who were holding a rally in front of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Lebanon, attacked the administrative building of the embassy and threw bottles of paint and a combustible mixture into the building, which they brought with them.
