Azeri rescuers, doctors complete mission in Pakistan

“The Azerbaijani rescuers and doctors will return from Pakistan to Baku,” Dashgin Shikarov, the Consul of the Azerbaijani embassy in Pakistan, told Trend. A group of the Azerbaijani rescuers and doctors in Islamabad will be back in a special airliner.

The diplomat reminded that 20 rescuers and 15 doctors had been in the Pakistani city Balakot, which greatly suffered from the earthquake, since 12 October. In this period the Azerbaijani doctors rendered medical assistance to approximately 500 injured and held surgery over 50 suffered. Officers of the Defense Headquarters of Azerbaijan found the bodies of hundreds under the ruins.

According to Shikarov, over 25,000 people suffered as a result of earthquake, while Pakistan now is in condition to render medical assistance to the suffered, as now there is no need for additional assistance. “So, the Azerbaijani rescuers and doctors completed their major mission,” the diplomat underlined.

Colonel Meidin Ali, the coordinator of the Pakistani Army in Balakote, who conducts control over the activities of the international rescuers, voiced his gratitude to the Azerbaijani rescuers and doctors for the work done in the disaster zone. He also voiced his satisfaction with the professionalism of the Azerbaijani mission. Shikarov his turn told Ali the Azerbaijani doctors entering the group had definite experience gained in Turkey and Iran, as well as work with the suffered in the destructive earthquake zone.
