Azerbaijan National Security Ministry Detains Group Engaged in Drug Smuggling

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr E. Huseynli / Azerbaijani National Security Ministry and the State Border Service detained a group engaged in drug smuggling through the route of Iran-Azerbaijan and Iran-Azerbaijan-Russia. Some 21kg drugs were seized, according to the Public Relations Centre of the Defence Ministry.

A resident of Azerbaijani Yardymly region, Firuddin Aliyev, (born in 1961) and his son Gamil Aliyev (born in 1989) were smuggling drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan. Some 2kg of heroin and 9,743gr of hashish were withdrawn.

In order to deliver the next consignment of drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan F. Aliyev met with an Iranian citizen Mammadali, the personality of whom is being defined now, in the area of Arus village of Yardymly region. F. Aliyev agreed with Mammadali that his son Gamil would deliver the drugs to Baku and sell it for $1,000 to a client the personality of whom id also investigated. F. Aliyev hid the drug in the cab of a KaMAZ marked truck.

The smugglers were detained by the employees of the Defence Ministry on Masally-Yardymly highway going to Baku.

A criminal case was filed in compliance of Article 206.3.2 (agreed smuggling of drugs), 234.4.1 and 234.4.3 (illegal obtaining, storage, transportation, sending, and sale of big consignment of drugs by an organized group) of the Criminal Code.

The Defence Ministry also detained a resident of Azerbaijani Jalilabad region, Ilham Baghirov, born in 1970, and the residents of Ganja city, Ramiz Pashayev, 1952, and Elmir Aliyev, 1979, who were smuggling drugs via Iran-Azerbaijan-Russia route. Some 9, 778gr of hashish were seized.

Aliyev ordered 10kg of drugs to Baghirov for $6,000. Moreover, Pashayev gave $13,000 to Aliyev, who later passed it to Baghirov in Imishli region.

A criminal case was filed in accordance with Article 234.4.1 and 234.4.3 (illegal obtaining, storage, transportation, sending, and sale of big consignments of drugs by an organized group) of the Criminal Code.
