Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr E. Huseynli / Remains of some 150 people were found in mass cemetery in Azerbaijan's Guba region, the deputy director of Archaeology and Ethnography Institute of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Najaf Museyibli, reported to Trend on 12 September. According to him, archaeological digs are being carried out in the area of 500 sq m.
A cemetery was revealed during construction of a stadium in the territory of Guba region in the beginning of April. Initial expertise proved that the confusedly buried people were of Azerbaijani and Jewish origin slaughtered by Armenians during the genocide of 1918. After research is completed a monument will be erected to the victims of the genocide.
According to Museyibli, archaeological digs will be continued until all victims are found.
Guba region is located 170km north of Baku.
