€2mln Spent for Azerbaijan National Team’s New Horse (video)

Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 August / Тrend News , corr. J.Babayeva/ The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) purchased a French horse for jockey Jamal Rahimov, who will represent Azerbaijan at the equestrian Olympic games in Beijing, for about €2mln, Azerbaijan's Youth & Sports Minister Azad Rahimov said at a press conference in Baku on 5 August.

According to Rahimov, French magazine La Monde published that Azerbaijan had purchased the better horse - national patrimony of France.

Minister said he was very glad Azerbaijan would be represented for the first time in such an elite sport. "Jockey Jamal Rahimov is the third 20-year-old sportsman to participate in the Olympic Games," said Minister.

Rahimov said equestrian is a very expensive sport. The Ministry applied to the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to receive aid to maintain the sport. The Foundation appropriates €10,000 per month for the sport and missions of Jamal Rahimov. The Ministry spends about AZN 100,000 for this purpose.
