Council of Europe sports ministers to meet in Baku

The agenda has been set for a meeting of the Council of Europe's sports ministers to be held in Baku on Sept. 21-22 to discuss the important European sports matters, the Azerbaijani Youth and Sports Ministry said today.

The agenda has been set for a meeting of the Council of Europe's sports ministers to be held in Baku on Sept. 21-22 to discuss the important European sports matters, the Azerbaijani Youth and Sports Ministry said today.

The first part of the conference will discuss sports corruption and fixing, while the the second will consider pan-European sports cooperation. The ministerial conference will also mull the issuance of visas to athletes, the fight against doping, and cooperation between EU and the Council of Europe.

In addition, the ministers will discuss a Convention to combat hooliganism and fan violence at sports events and football matches.

The Council of Europe's Director General of Education, Culture and Heritage, Youth and Sport Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, European Olympic Committee President Patrick Hickey, the head of the Sport Akkord organization, the vice-president and secretary general of the European Fair Play Movement, as well as 10 heads of sports organizations, will attend the event as guests

The sports ministers, their deputies, and secretaries of state from 18 countries including Spain, Portugal, Ukraine, Turkey, Hungary, and others, were expected to attend the event. Representatives of 35 countries have confirmed their participation in the event.
