Azerbaijani Press Council will publish a book on the work done in 2010, the decision on it was taken at a meeting of the Council's Board, held on Monday.

The agenda included four questions. Initially, the chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov delivered a report on the work done by the Council in 2010. According to Amashov, the paper provides extensive information about the activities of the commissions, consideration of appeals and complaints received by the Council, decision-making and feedback measures to combat racketeering-journalism, realization of initiatives for defamation, the matters relating to the new version of the Rules of professional ethics of journalists in Azerbaijan, addressing issues arising from the order of the President in connection with 135th anniversary of the national press, review of conferences, seminars, round tables on various topics and studies undertaken in the framework of international cooperation.

The second issue of agenda was linked with the discussion of the action plan of the Press Council in 2011. After approving the plan, a decision was made to continue working on submitting the Law on Defamation to the Parliament, and the work on placing ads and advertising of the state agencies in the media to improve the economic situation of the press. The action plan includes activities related to online journalism and the 20th anniversary of the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence. The issue of holding a special conference on the role of media in the restoration of the country's independence was agreed. Regarding the 100th anniversary of the Shusha newspaper, it was noted that organizing an event bringing together media agencies of occupied regions is urgent.
