Azerbaijan has become a more transparent and open country as a result of reforms carried out in the past five years. The number of tourists visiting the country increased by 15 percent. This is an excellent indicator for Azerbaijan, World Tourism Organization (WTO) Secretary General Taleb Rifai said at a meeting with Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfas Garayev on Tuesday.
He said tourism in Azerbaijan is dynamically developing. The country is constructing modern hotels, the number of which has already hit more than 500, he added.
"The construction of the Shahdag Winter and Summer Tourist Complex in its own way completes Azerbaijan's tourism infrastructure. Azerbaijan can cooperate with the World Tourism Organization in this sphere in two ways - Azerbaijani specialists can be trained in WTO offices, or the organization's specialists can hold trainings at the Azerbaijan Tourism Institute," Rifai said.
Garayev expressed satisfaction with cooperation with the WTO and stressed that it will become even wider after Secretary General's visit.
