Turkish premier opens 53 student dormitories in capital.

53 dormitories are located in 41 provinces and they have a capacity of housing 40 thousand students, Anadolu agency reported.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended a ceremony for symbolic inauguration of a total of 53 dormitories built for university students throughout Turkey.

Speaking at the ceremony in the Turkish capital, Ankara, Erdogan said his government allocated from the budget over 39 billion Turkish liras for education, adding education budget was only 7.5 billion in 2002, when the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party came to power.

Erdogan said 92 universities were opened in the past decade to bring the total number of universities in Turkey to 168, adding that the government also rescind fees in public universities.

The 53 dormitories are located in 41 provinces and they have a capacity of housing 40 thousand students.
