KHANKENDI, Azerbaijan, April 14. The preliminary investigation into criminal cases involving 16 individuals accused of war crimes has been concluded in Azerbaijan, said the country's Prosecutor General, Kamran Aliyev, Trend reports.
Speaking during a conference in Khankendi on "Heydar Aliyev and Sovereign Azerbaijan," Aliyev confirmed that the investigation was finished concerning charges related to crimes against humanity, war crimes, and offenses committed by the Armenian military and its illegal armed formations, including the so-called "Nagorno-Karabakh Republic," established by Armenia on Azerbaijan’s occupied territories. These cases have now been forwarded to the Baku Military Court for further judicial proceedings.
"These criminal cases have been forwarded to the Baku Military Court for examination on the merits, and the trial is currently underway," he said.
Aliyev emphasized that holding the event in Khankendi, a city that had been under occupation for decades, at the newly opened Karabakh University reflects the political competence and resolute will of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, as well as the courage of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.
"We are confident that the cooperation between the General Prosecutor’s Office and Garabagh University will develop, and mutual collaboration will continue successfully. The historic victory achieved in the 44-day Second Karabakh War, which began in 2020 with a counteroffensive by the Azerbaijani army under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, led to the liberation of our territories that had been under occupation for nearly three decades, and the full restoration of our state’s territorial integrity," he added.
