Daily Papers Will Cost More in Azerbaijan

Rauf Arifoghlu, the Editor-in-Chief of Yeni Musavat (New Musavat Newspaper, informed Trend that chiefs of Azerbaijan daily newspapers have decided that their publications should cost more expensive.

Today (January 9, 2007), an extraordinary sitting of editor-in-chiefs of the daily newspapers has been held.

During the sitting, the impact of the advance in the energy carriers prices on other spheres in the country was discussed. The editor-in-chiefs came to conclusion that the only way out of the situation was to increase the cost of the newspapers. Therefore, we have taken a unanimous decision to increase the cost on the publications. Next Monday, the editor-in-chiefs are expected to gather again to discuss when to increase the costs and by how much, said Mr. Arifoghlu.

According to him, representatives of the publishing houses will be invited to the forthcoming meeting to agree on the future costs.

Mr. Arifoghlu said that if the publishing houses did not increase the rates, then the newspapers would cost as they did before. Otherwise, an extraordinary sitting of the editor-in-chiefs will be held to fix new costs. Notably, such known papers like Yeni Musavat, Azadlig, Bizim Yol, Milli Yol, Express, Baki Khabar, Ejednevniy Azerbaijan, Sharg, 24 Saat have joined the today decision. Several publications вЂ" 525 Gazet, Ayna-Zerkalo, and Echo have increased their price by 50%.
