Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend , corr I. Khalilova / Kamran Imanov, the Head of the State Historical and Architectural Reserves Office at the Cabinet of Azerbaijan, informed 9 March that the Icheri Sheher ( Old City) can be excluded out of the UNESCO World Heritage List. The List includes historical and architectural monuments as well as the reserves under threat.

"The UNESCO Commission expressed satisfaction with the Azerbaijani Government's arrangements on the reconstruction of the Old City. In the near future the Old City is expected to leave the list," Imanov stressed.

A large-scale huge work to define the correspondence of the new constructions to the legislative regulations has been carried out. All the constructions have been photographed. The construction work started in 1990. The new constructions are divided into three categories. The buildings similar to the architecture of the Old City refer to the first category. The second one includes the buildings that are partially similar to the original. The third category includes the buildings absolutely irrelevant to the architecture of the Old City and the morphology of the streets.

"The bridge near the Maiden Tower (Gyz Galasi) should be reconstructed in accordance with the architecture of the Old City," Kerimov informed.
