Huseynli / The broadcasting of the Russian channel RTR-Planeta via Azerbaijan's national frequencies has been extended to the beginning of September in order to avoid tensions between Azerbaijan and Russia, the Chairman of Azerbaijani National Television and Radio Council, Nushiravan Maharramli, reported to Trend on 20 August.
According to him, the Russian side is currently evaluating the proposals of an Azerbaijani working group. Maharramli noted that an agreement on the initial terms of the contract had been reached between the working groups established to find a solution to the issues of mutual broadcasting of Azerbaijani and Russian TV Channels.
During a meeting of the council held at the beginning of January a decision was made to cease the broadcasting of the Russian channels ORT and RTR-Planeta, as well as the Turkish channel STV, in Azerbaijan. Broadcasting of ORT stopped on 10 July, and broadcasting of RTR-Planeta was extended to 10 August, after the Russian side appealed to Azerbaijan. A tender was announced for STV. The members of the working groups have held two meetings.
