Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr E. Huseynli / A fire was started in the forest belonging to Lankaran Region Forest Protection & Restoration Department in Azerbaijan, the acting spokesman for Azerbaijan Ecology & Natural Resources Ministry, Irada Ibrahimova, reported on 4 September.
The fire was caused through the carelessness of local residents. As a result, 0.2 hectares of woods were burned.
According to Ibrahimova, owing to joint efforts of the employees of Anti-fire Department of Azerbaijan Emergency Situations Ministry and the anti-fire groups of the Lankaran Department, the spread of fire was prevented. A commission was established to reveal the cause of the fire and to assess its financial damage.
Lankaran region with the population of 201,500 people is located 268km south of Baku.
