BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 25
The Small and Medium Business (SME) Development Agency of Azerbaijan discussed the prospects for the production of sand and gravel, opportunities and problems in this area at a forum with the participation of entrepreneurs of this industry and representatives of government agencies, the agency said, Trend reports.
The forum was organized by the Agency for the Development of SMEs in partnership with the Association of Sand, Gravel and Stone Producers.
Chairman of the Public Council under the agency Farhad Garayev said that the forum was organized in order to study the current situation in the field of sand and gravel processing, identify problems and find their effective solutions, as well as strengthen cooperation between the public and private sectors in the use of sand and gravel resources.
In turn, Chairman of the board of the agency, Orkhan Mammadov, noted the importance of bulk building materials, including sand and gravel, for the economy, especially for the construction sector.
“No matter how profitable this industry is for the country's economy, the process has to be regulated in accordance with environmental safety and environmental protection measures. The received requests, surveys and meetings show that there are certain difficulties in the development of the sector. The presence of illegal entrepreneurial activity in the field of sand and gravel mining promotes unfair competition and hinders the work of business structures that invest in the industry and carry out legal activities. In some cases, there are difficulties in acquiring ownership of the relevant site. Lack of awareness of the rules provided for by law sometimes leads to administrative offenses and fines for business entities," Mammadov said.
Samir Gurbanov, Chairman of the Board of the State Agency for the Use of Mineral Resources under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, informed the forum participants about the work carried out in the development of sand and gravel production, measures to preserve natural resources and protect the environment.
Gurbanov emphasized that the ongoing activities are designed to ensure transparency in this area and organize activities in accordance with the law.
Speaking at the forum, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Sand, Gravel and Stone Producers Niyameddin Iskandarov informed about the current state and development prospects of the sector.
Within the forum, entrepreneurs and representatives of government agencies held discussions and voiced proposals for the development of the industry.
