BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 4. Fast and decisive action can reduce the long-term health risks associated with climate change, the Biosciences Programme Director of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP), Dr. Robin Fears said at a panel discussion on "Role of Global and Regional Collaboration in Overcoming Scientific Challenges" at the final day of the Baku Climate Action Week, Trend reports.

"There is currently a serious threat to both physical and mental health due to the consequences of climate change. The most vulnerable populations are those least able to cope with the situation and least involved in creating these global issues," Fears said.

He noted that solutions to these problems are within reach, thanks to modern scientific knowledge.

"Fast and decisive actions can reduce long-term risks from climate change and deliver significant health benefits for people in the future," he added.

Furthermore, Dr. Fears highlighted how climate change intersects with other global challenges, exacerbating them.

"It is essential to address fundamental scientific questions to develop new research and eliminate disparities in the geographic distribution of scientific data," he noted.

The program director also stressed the importance of a systematic approach to research in tackling these interconnected issues.
