Labor Inspection Likely to Toughen Sanctions for Violating Companies

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend U.Ismayilova / The sanctions made with respect to Firma Kapitol, a construction company, will be toughened unless it fulfills the instructions presented by the Labor Inspector, Avaz Nabiyev, who is head of the control section of the Labor Inspection of Azerbaijan, said on 21 September.

On 21 September the Inspector, operating out of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Labor and Social Security halted the construction work at a sixteen-storey building at 382 S. Abdullayev, belonging to Firma Kapitol.

"The construction work was ceased due to violations of technical safety guidelines," Nabiyev said.

According to Nabiyev, since 12 September the Inspector has set up monitoring at construction areas to assess the existence of labor agreements and observe the following of technical safety rules. The company was fined in the amount of AZN 99 and as a result of the Inspector's interference the company concluded twenty-eight labor contracts with employees.

Nabiyev said that at present the inspector is checking on fifty construction sites.

"The key objective of the inspection is not to arouse fear in construction companies, but to make them observe the appropriate rules," Nabiyev said.
