Renewed US economic concerns, stronger yen send Tokyo stocks down

( dpa ) - Renewed concerns over the US economy and a stronger yen dragged Tokyo stocks down in morning trading Friday.

The Nikkei 225 Stock Average lost 264.34 points, or 1.93 per cent, to 13,423.94.

The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also down 20.28 points, or 1.52 per cent, to 1,314.44.

On currency markets at 9 am (0000 GMT), the dollar was quoted at 107.42-44 yen, down from Thursday's 5 pm quote of 108.11-13 yen.

The euro was quoted at 1.4811-16 dollars, up from Thursday's 5 pm quote of 1.4721-23 dollars, and at 159.10-15 yen, down from 159.15-19 yen.
