Azerbaijan’s industrial production tops 1.3 billion manat in January

In January 2009, industrial production [goods manufactured and industrial services rendered] in Azerbaijan hit 1.32 billion manat, a 34.7-percent fall from January 2008, the State Statistics Committee said on Feb. 21.

In January 2009, extractive industry production hit 809.6 million manat, a 6.9-percent fall and 61.2-percent share in total industrial production. Processing industry production hit 389.8 million manat, a 6.7-percent rise and 29.4-percent share in the total processing industry production. Power engineering, gas and water sectors hit 124.6 million manat, a 4.2-percent fall.

Oil production rise hit 8 percent. Gas production has experienced a 4.7-percent decline and oil processing faced a 7.9-percent fall.

During the reported period, metallurgical industry and finished products production experienced a 22-percent fall, chemical production - a 57.5-percent decline, leather and leather goods production - a 27.3-percent decline, while growth in production of food products hit 3.9 percent.

Private sector share in total industrial production was 71.3 percent (943.6 million manat) in January 2009. Decline in the private sector was at 7.4 percent, while state industry experienced a 1.1-percent rise.

On Feb. 21, the official exchange rate is 0.8062 manat to $1.
