Azerbaijan increases gas transportation more than 27 percent

In January to April 2009, cargo transportation made up 57.2 million tons of cargo, or 1.8% more than the same period of 2008.
Of the total volume of transported cargo, 71.4% accounted for of the private sector. In January-April, of the total volume of transported cargo, 46.2% was transported by cars, 35.3% - pipelines, 11.4% - railway and 7.1% - ships.
Passenger transportation totaled 413.2 million people or 7.7% more than January-April 2009. The share of private sector in the passenger transportation made up 81.7%. The passenger transportation by cars made up 81.8%, metro - 17.7%.
Azerbaijan State Railway Department (ASRD) transported 5.6 million tons of cargo compared to 8.9 million tons the last year.
The cargo shipping via sea rose by 11.7% and comprised 4.1 million tons. Some 73.5% of cargo deliveries fell on oil and oil products, while 26.5% was dry cargo. Some 71.4% of cargo deliveries fell on oil and oil products, while 28.6% was dry cargo. All cargo deliveries were implemented under the international operations.
The volume of cargo processed in Azerbaijani ports was 1.7 million tons in January-April 2009 compared to 1.9 million tons during the same period of 2008.
In January to April 2009, cargo transportation by vehicles made up 26.4 million tons, or 8.2% more than 2008. Passenger transportation comprised 337.9 million people or 7.6% more with 96.7% people using buses and 3.3% people - vehicles.
Nearly 73 million passengers used metro services or 8.4% rise from 2008.
In January-April 2009, the passenger transportation via airways made up 354,000 people, including 7.5% implemented by private sector.
In January-April 2009, the export via oil pipelines made up 15.8 million tons compared to 15.6 million tons in 2008. During this period, 74.4% of oil was transported via the BTC.
Transportation via gas pipelines made up 6.2 billion cu.m or 27.3% more than in January-April 2008. About 2.1 billion cu.m. of gas was transported via South Caucasus Pipeline during the reported period.
In January to March 2009, 10 million tons of cargo were transported via the Eurasian corridor compared to 11.6 million tons in 2008.
