GM Uzbekistan ups car sale to Russia by 31 percent

GM Uzbekistan sold 71,623 cars to Russia in January-September 2011, or 31 percent more than the figure of the same period of 2010, Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the Association of European Businesses said on Wednesday

GM Uzbekistan sold 71,623 cars to Russia in January-September 2011, or 31 percent more than the figure of the same period of 2010, Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the Association of European Businesses said on Wednesday.

The joint venture sold 41,904 Nexia cars in January-September (increased by 31 percent) and 29,719 Matiz small cars (increased by 31 percent). In particular, about 8,492 cars of the Uzbek car plant were sold (increased by 15 percent) on the Russian market in September, the report said.

According to the Committee, Nexia car sales increased by 9 percent - up to 4,999, Matiz cars - by 24 percent up to 3,493 in September.

According to the information, "GM Uzbekistan" ranked tenth place in sale volumes to Russia for the first nine months of this year.

At present, JV "GM Uzbekistan" produces seven models of cars, three models of which are Chevrolet - Captiva, Epica and Spark.

GM Uzbekistan increased production of automobiles by 6.2 percent in 2010 to 217,733 cars. In particular, GM Uzbekistan decreased production of Nexia model by 3.9 percent to 87,100 units and Damas model by 11.6 percent to 20,900 units.

At the same time, production of Matiz models increased by 5.6 percent to 72,999 units. The enterprise produced 23,917 Lacetti model (a 23.3-percent increase), 3,185 Epica model (2.9 times up) and 1,835 Captiva model (66.8 percent) in 2010.
