Arif Mammadov, director of the Azerbaijani Civil Aviation Administration and Catalin Radu, president of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), discussed illegal construction work at the airport in Khojaly in Azerbaijan's occupied territory during the 137th meeting of the ECAC, the Administration said in an official media statement on Monday.
"Azerbaijan noted the increasing threat to flights safety in the region due to the intentions of a number of airlines to open flights to the above mentioned airport. The parties agreed to continue consultations on this matter, in the spirit of the Convention on International Civil Aviation based on the principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan," the statement noted.
During the meeting the European Commission submitted a proposal to start negotiations on an agreement for "Common Aviation Area" with our country in early 2012.
