Customs services of Azerbaijan and Macedonia signed an agreement on boosting cooperation in customs matters in Baku on Thursday.

The signing ceremony took place within the conference of heads of customs services of the World Customs Organization (WCO) European Region in Baku.

"The agreement envisages providing mutual assistance on various directions of customs activity," State Customs Committee Chairman Aydin Aliyev told reporters following the signing ceremony.

He said the two countries' customs services will closely cooperate in counter-smuggling and ensuring security.

"The Customs Committee has signed similar agreements with more than 40 countries. At present, the Committee continues to work on preparing agreements with a number of countries of South America, as well as Kuwait, Qatar and others," Aliyev said. "State Customs Committee will continue work in this direction."
