Afghanistan to use Iran's housing, technical expertise

Afghanistan and Iran have agreed to work together on a range of issues including housing, urban affairs, research and education.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Iran's Minister of Transportation and Urban Affairs, Ali Nikzad, and his Afghan counterpart Hassan Abdollahi, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reports.

Iran will also relay its knowledge of new building technologies and export technical and engineering services to Afghanistan.

At the signing of the two neighbours' memorandum of understanding, Mr. Nikzad pointed toKabul's quickly growing population as an example of the help Afghanistan needs with building housing units.

Mr. Nikzad also announced that a project to build a rail line connecting Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and China is being studied.
